Taking Time

Hello friends,

It’s the time of year where I turn toward contemplation. Here in the northern hemisphere, the days are growing shorter, and the wind takes on a chill. It’s natural to begin to take a more inward turn. To ask questions. To make space for quiet.

What needs to make way or be plowed under? What practices contribute to spaciousness and a more expansive sense of time?

I’m on a break this weekend, visiting the Oregon Coast. I’ll be teaching a brief class at a local shop—Necessary Magic—but mostly, I’ll just be, wandering the streets of this historic town, gazing out at the mighty Columbia River at the spot before it joins the sea.

Yesterday, my partner and I stopped at the ocean, to walk along the sand and let the wind clear our heads. There is nothing quite like the ocean to help with a reset. Standing at the place where land kisses a vast expanse of water puts life into perspective. My small complaints wash away, carried by the tide. The planet itself is huge, and I am just one minuscule part of the dance of life.

How about you? Are you slowing down or speeding up? What are the seasons like where you are? Will you give yourself time to regroup, take a deeper breath, and reassess what feels important, and what can drop away?

Best Wishes - Thorn
